I was going through the media guide the other day, and noticed the Blackhawks played Team Czechoslovakia in an exhibition...it was sometime back in 79-80, I think. Was anybody at that game?

Plus, do we have a history of Blackhawks exhibitions vs. cold war teams? I know back when I was a kid we played the Red Army team, or Moscow Dynamo..one of the two.

Here's some other random questions:

Was there a dropoff in attendance after Bobby Hull left? I noticed the Hawks went to the finals WITHOUT him in '73, and finished in 1st in '74. Did Hull's leave effect people's view of the team?

Just some random questions for the older people on the board. I love history.

I don't remember the game vs Czechoslovakia. They played the Red Army team, I believe in '76, I went to the game & have the program. Attendance did not fall after Bobby Hull's departure. Also the Hawks played 2 exhibition games vs the Canadiens in London, England in Sept before the '92'93 season.

Yes,Hull's leaving did effect people's view of the team. Most people could just not believe that the Blackhawks would let Hull get away.It would have been like the Montreal Canadians trading or losing Rocket Richard.

Its been estimated that the loss of Hull cost Mr.Writz millions in the years after Hull left for Winnipeg.

And that is why it took 28 years for the attendance to finally start to drop because of it blink.gif . Yes there were upset fans, but attendance was really really good for the team until around 2000. So I am not too sure how many millions he lost just because of letting Hull go.

Well you could be right old boy but I seem to remember the Blackhawks having a lot of attendance problems back in the 70's and 80's. blink.gif

Yup late 70's and early 80's when the team blew the same chunks as they have in the past several seasons. Losing tends to do that, but the attendance was not down in the 6k per game range and many would make us believe. Plus the attendance drops happened well after Hull left.
